Caregiver Continuity: The Overlooked Driver of Care Quality

Post Copy

Continuity is the most overlooked factor in home care quality assessments. Discharge planners often focus on service availability and credentials, but miss the compounding benefit of consistent caregiver assignment.

When patients have the same caregiver across shifts and weeks, outcomes improve: better health monitoring continuity, reduced patient anxiety, stronger trust relationships, and fewer care gaps from shift-to-shift knowledge transfer. The research is clear, but industry practice lags because continuity requires stable employment models.

Advantage builds continuity intentionally: W-2 employment (not gig work), consistent scheduling, and caregiver-to-patient matching all support the same goal. It costs more upfront than contractor models, but patients stay home longer, readmissions drop, and family satisfaction increases.

When referring patients to home care, how much weight do you give to caregiver continuity vs. other factors like credentials or service scope?
