Inside a Tree Hazard Assessment: What Birmingham Arborists Look For

Post Copy

A tree can look completely fine from the street and still be carrying real structural risk underneath the bark.

During a hazard assessment, an ISA Certified Arborist checks the trunk base for cavities or fungal growth, inspects major limb unions for weak attachment points, and evaluates the root plate for any sign of soil movement. Mushrooms at the base, vertical bark cracks, and uneven canopy thinning are common warning signs homeowners often overlook.

Not every flagged tree needs removal. Cabling, bracing, or targeted pruning frequently address the risk while preserving a mature tree's shade and value.
