Magnolia scale is one of the most damaging pests for ornamental trees in Central Alabama, and summer is when it becomes most visible.
Look for white or waxy bumps on branches, a sticky honeydew residue dripping from the canopy, and dark sooty mold forming on leaves below. By the time sooty mold appears, the infestation is usually advanced.
