Saturated soil loses its grip fast. After a stretch of heavy rain, root systems that normally hold a tree steady can shift just enough to create a lean that wasn't there a week ago, especially on trees with shallow or already-compromised roots.
A lean that shows up suddenly after rain is different from a tree that has grown at an angle its whole life. The sudden ones are the ones worth a second look, particularly if you notice cracked soil lifting near the base or roots pulling up on one side.
