Removal is usually the biggest ticket item we quote, and it would be easy to lean that direction on every close call. We don't do that. If a mature tree can be brought back to a safe, healthy structure with targeted pruning instead, that's the estimate we give.
A lot of the trees we save just need dead or crossing limbs removed, canopy thinned to reduce wind resistance, or weight redistributed away from a weak union. That's a fraction of the cost of removal and keeps the shade, the property value, and the character of a yard intact.
Removal only gets recommended when a tree's structural problems are too far along to correct safely, or when it's a genuine hazard to a structure or a person. We'd rather walk a homeowner through both options honestly than push the more expensive one.
