Southern pine beetles are most active during summer in North Georgia — and by June, infestations can spread fast between neighboring trees.
Look for these early warning signs on your pines: small pitch tubes on the bark that look like clumps of resin, fine boring dust at the base of the trunk, and woodpecker activity concentrated on a specific tree. Yellowing or reddening needles are a later indicator that the infestation is already advanced.
If something looks off, get a professional assessment before the infestation spreads to adjacent trees.
